In early June, seven leaders of the organization were executed in Japan. The death sentence was also carried out against the founder of the extremist organization Tizuo Matsumoto, also known as Shoko Asahara.

There is still no definitive answer to the question of why in 1995 Aum Shinrikyo members resorted to a sarinoff attack in the Tokyo subway. According to one version, Asahara was warned about impending police raids and ordered the use of gas to divert attention from his sect.
