Strange find in England

British archaeologists in the study of the Roman cemetery found dozens of ancient graves, which were the remains of decapitated people.

Scientists note that the discovery of a whole "series" of decapitated bodies is an extremely rare find.
The cemetery in question is located in Great Wilnetham, Suffolk County. Excavations were carried out on the site of future construction.

The Roman cemetery dates from the 4th century AD. A total of 52 graves were found in which archaeologists found the remains of men, women and children. Probably, they all lived in a nearby settlement.

The scientists were surprised that about 40 percent of the skeletons were decapitated. The skulls were also located in the graves, and in some cases they were laid between the legs of the deceased.

“It was probably a very specific part of the population that followed an unusual burial practice,” says Andrew Peachy from the archaeological service of the Suffolk County Council.
