Rosleskhoz determines which regions handle forests better

The Federal Forestry Agency compiled a rating of the effectiveness of the fulfillment by the regions in 2019 of the transferred powers in the field of forest relations. The list includes both the best and the worst regions. The rating was evaluated according to dozens of criteria.

“The analysis is provided according to 36 criteria of seven groups, including reforestation, forest fire season, economic activity,” the Rosleskhoz press service said.
This year, the top 10 best included the Leningrad, Tver, Kostroma regions, the Republic of Tatarstan, Kirov, Vologda, Nizhny Novgorod, Kaliningrad regions, the Republic of North Ossetia and the Republic of Mari El.

The leader of the anti-rating, prepared on the basis of absolute data on the volumes of detected illegal logging in 2019, was the Irkutsk Region with an indicator of more than 440 thousand cubic meters of detected illegal logging. Further on the list are the Krasnoyarsk and Trans-Baikal Territories, where the volumes of illegally logged wood amounted to about 115 thousand and 102 thousand cubic meters. The anti-rating on the area covered by forest fires in the forest fund in 2020 is currently headed by the Khabarovsk Territory, the Jewish Autonomous Region, and the Trans-Baikal Territory.

The press service of the department noted that the assessment of forest management effectiveness is carried out annually among all regions of Russia. The calculation is made according to specially developed formulas.

But there are innovations in this new ranking. For example, the Federal Forestry Agency published for the first time data on indicators such as the area covered by forest fires, the speed of extinguishing fires on the first day, the amount of illegal logging detected, and the area of artificial reforestation.

And, let's say, the traditionally worst in many classic indicators, the Irkutsk region this year has ceased to be an absolute "bad guy." For example, in such an indicator as conducting artificial reforestation, the Irkutsk region was the best. In the region, more than 15 thousand hectares of forest were planted in a year.
Tver Oblast got the second place in the rating, where more than 9.3 thousand hectares were planted. The third place was occupied by the Leningrad Region, which provided about 9 thousand hectares of new forest plantations.

And on such an important indicator as fire extinguishing efficiency, the worst indicators were shown by the Jewish Autonomous Region, Trans-Baikal Territory, Khabarovsk Territory, Karachay-Cherkess and Chuvash Republics.

Among the regions where it was possible to extinguish fires from the beginning of the year on the first day - Penza, Saratov, Bryansk, Amur, Smolensk, Pskov, Moscow regions, regions, Krasnoyarsk Territory and several other regions.
