Near the city of Gyeongju, a pair of gilded bronze shoes was discovered

South Korean archaeologists during excavations in the Hwannam-ton funeral complex near Gyeongju City found a pair of gilded bronze shoes, presumably from the period of the existence of the powerful kingdom of Silla.

About the discovery told the publication The Korea Herald. It was carried out by specialists of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage of the Kingdom of Silla. This powerful state existed from 57 BC to 935 AD.
Excavations were carried out in the province of North Gyeongsang. A large funeral complex is located here. Hundreds of tombs were discovered and numbered at the beginning of the last century. To this day, archaeologists find valuable relics and objects here.

So gilded shoes were discovered in one of two recently opened tombs. These objects received the designation No. 120-1 and 120-2, as they adjoin the tomb No. 120, found in the last century during the Japanese rule.

The age of unusual shoes, archaeologists dated by the age of tombs No. 120-2, in which they were found. A preliminary analysis showed that relics were created at the end of the 5th - beginning of the 6th centuries AD.

Such shoes in South Korea were last found in 1977 in the ancient tomb in Inwan-dong, all in the same city of Gyeongju. By the way, he was the capital of the kingdom of Silla.

Researchers believe that no one wore the shoes they found in everyday life. They were made especially for the funeral ceremony. Their surface is literally dotted with T-shaped holes.

Other artifacts were found in tomb # 120-2, for example, a rich saddle, bronze items, as well as metal and clay dishes. Excavations are still at an early stage.

Local archaeologists say that tomb number 120 will be examined only after the analysis of the two adjacent tombs is completed. By the way, she is the largest of them. This indicates that a prominent dignitary of the kingdom of Silla may be buried in it.
