This is a voluntary scheme, and those who wish to constantly work in the office will have such an opportunity when the restrictions caused by the coronavirus epidemic are completely lifted. According to a study by the local economic institute Ifo, more than half of the companies in Germany are ready to follow suit. They are also supported by the country's authorities: back in April, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Hubertus Heil said that he would consider the issue of legislating the right to work from home, as, for example, in Britain.

Under the Labor Rights Act, workers in the United Kingdom have every right to demand flexible working conditions. And one of the latest polls, the results of which are cited by the European portal New Europe, showed that for 65 percent of Britons, working at home was more productive than in regular offices. In addition, this allows you to save on office space and recruit employees from different countries of the world, based on their professionalism, and not place of residence.
True, such a scheme contributes to the dispersal of workers in different countries and weakening of communication between them, and also requires significant investments in programs that ensure the safety of the virtual office.

And the experience of the German software developer SAP SE was useful in this. The Financial Times reports that its employees, which are about 25 thousand people around the world, even before the coronavirus pandemic, worked at home about 2.6 days a week. When the pandemic began, the company almost completely switched to remote work, and so successfully that it is now sharing its experience with other German firms. For example, to reduce the stress of working at home, a virtual eating platform called Never Lunch Alone was created for employees, and children were taught online piano lessons. At the same time, German companies are abandoning the standard scheme in which an employee's salary depends on the number of hours worked. SAP has reached an agreement with unions that remuneration will be related to productivity and hourly wages will be canceled. Siemens also plans to reorient itself from the time of presence to the result. Even so, employees will have to come to terms with the fact that their work will be closely watched and evaluated more strictly. "If you want to work from home, you have to accept that your salary will become more flexible. This is the flip side of the coin," Oliver Stetttes, head of labor at the German Economic Institute in Cologne, told The Financial Times.
It is not surprising that Germany is the leader in the world ranking of countries with the most flexible work from home policies. Research by innovation company Instant Group found that 80 percent of jobs in this country could be reoriented to telecommuting.

The new reality prompted the local authorities to develop a special legal framework that will have to regulate the relationship between an employee and an employer in remote conditions. This base will be built on a list of rules, which, in addition to the terminology and legal status of work from home, also contain interesting details regarding the duties of the employer. For example, if an employee works from home using their own equipment, then the company must cover all costs associated with its maintenance. In addition, the employer must determine how much it cost the employee to use his equipment during working hours.
The new rules also prohibit superiors from monitoring their subordinates using a webcam and prescribe a monitoring system for them, taking into account all laws regarding personal data. Working hours for employees working from home are particularly challenging. The authorities have yet to develop a convenient model so that work does not interfere with personal time and household chores. The government also plans to create a special unit that would be exclusively engaged in monitoring remote work.

The Chilean authorities have also decided to oblige employers to cover all costs of operating and repairing a remote employee's equipment. In addition, in a new law, inspired by the pandemic, the government of this South American country prescribed that if a subordinate works from his home or the home of a third party, then his superiors are prohibited from entering there without prior permission. But the employee always has the right to free entrance to the company building. In addition, having concluded an agreement with an employee on the transition to a remote mode, the company's management is obliged to register this agreement with the Ministry of Labor within 15 days.
