New airport opened in Turkey

The Turkish authorities opened a new airport in Istanbul, which after the completion of all work will be the largest in the world. The ceremony was attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It is reported by the Anatolian Agency.
“Istanbul is not only the largest city in Turkey, but also the most important brand of the country. Therefore, we gave the name“ Istanbul Airport ”to the new air harbor. I hope that its opening will benefit not only Turkey, but the world as a whole,” noted Erdogan.
According to him, “Istanbul will turn into a major transport hub,” which will lead to a change in air traffic flows between the continents. "After the opening of the first stage, Istanbul Airport will be able to serve up to 90 million passengers a year. With the implementation of all stages of the project, this figure will increase to 150 million, and if necessary, it will be increased to 200 million passengers," the president stressed.
As expected, all stages of construction will be implemented until 2023.
Currently, more than 10 billion euros have already been invested in Istanbul Airport, but this is less than half of the amount claimed by the tender winner by a consortium of companies Limak-Kolin-Cengiz-MaPa-Kalyon (they offered to implement the project for 26.14 billion euros).
At first, two runways, a terminal of 1.4 million square meters, a control tower and auxiliary buildings will be put into operation. In five years, the new airport will have six runways, parking for 500 aircraft, open and closed parking for 70 thousand cars. He will be able to receive airplanes from 250 airlines of the world, which will fly to more than 350 destinations.
The first flight from there will be made very soon - on October 31 by Turkish Airlines (Istanbul-Ankara). The next day - the first international flight (to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus). But he had already taken the first plane, it turned out to be a presidential airliner, which had landed at the airport before the official opening.
It is noteworthy that the celebrations coincided with the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey - the main holiday of the country.
